WWE Championship Match: Bray Wyatt (c) vs Randy Orton

From the best match of the night, to potentially the worst.  Let me start by saying that for months leading up to the Wrestlemania, this match, no matter who eventually would end up in it, was billed as the “main event”.  It was said over and over again.  Last time I checked, the “main event” is the last match of the night, not the third to last.  This could be one of the potential reasons this match turned out so poorly.  Perhaps with a main event feel and more time to work, this could’ve been taken more seriously.

So because this wasn’t the last match of the night, the WWE Championship ended up being defended over the course of a whopping 10 minutes and 30 seconds.  In Wrestlemania history, a world title has been contested 41 times before Sunday.  And only 4 times before this match had one of those match gone less than 10:30.  Randy Savage/Ted Dibiasi at WM4, Yokozuna/Bret Hart WM9 (I’m not counting Hogan’s match or win that night because it was ridiculous), Rey Misterio/Randy Orton/Kurt Angle at WM22, and the awful 8-second match between Daniel Bryan and Sheamus at WM28.

Just when I thought the WWE was looking to build a new star, they jobbed Wyatt out to Orton in near record time.  And that was the last and biggest issue with this match.  What was the point of giving Orton another title right now?  Is the WWE scared because they’re about to lose 2 of their biggest stars in Jericho and Cena for an extended period so they want to push another?  If that’s the case, that’s silly.  Sunday should’ve been Wyatt’s night.  Now they’ll have to pick up the pieces.

Verdict: Did Not Meet Expectations
