Universal Title Match: Goldberg (c) vs Brock Lesnar

You know the best thing about this feud?  It’s finally over.  For the past 6 months, the WWE fandom has been force-fed this feud between two guys who won’t wrestle more than a dozen times in this calendar year.  Plus, we have to watch as one the World championships is being held by a 50-year old who had not only not wrestled in over 13 years before returning last November, is completely gassed about a minute into each match.  Heck, Goldberg’s pouring sweat during his promos.  It’s no wonder his matches are so quick.

But with all that being said, the Lesnar/Goldberg match turned out to be pretty much what everyone thought it was going to be.  Short, explosive, and ending with Lesnar as champion again, and that’s exactly what happened.  And in all honesty, it was actually kind of fun.  It was a great sight to see Goldberg suplexed ten times in a row and then take an F-5 while the crowd cheered wildly for the guy who was supposed to be heel in the match.  That right there should be blamed on awful booking.

So one big question to come out of this is what happens to the Universal title?  Does Lesnar hold it hostage until SummerSlam?  Does he vacate it?  Want to know one way this all could’ve been avoided?  Kept the belt on Owens who would then defend it against Jericho in what was the staggeringly better match and let Lesnar get his closure on Goldberg in a match that did not necessitate a belt.  But they went this route and here we go again.  But logic aside, the match did its thing.

Verdict: Achieved Expectations
