RAW Women’s Title Match: Bayley vs Charlotte Flair vs Nia Jax vs Sasha Banks

At last year’s Wrestlemania 32, the girls stole the show.  Granted it was a pretty lackluster card but the trio of Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch put an absolute classic and firmly cemented this generation of female wrestlers as the best of all time.  So for Wrestlemania 33 they subtracted Lynch and added Nia Jax and RAW Women’s Champion Bayley, and with that expectation that this match could be even better than the WrestleMania 32 bout.  And the result?  It was okay.  Good, not great.

The psychology made sense.  The three smaller girls teamed up to get rid of Jax who looked like an absolute beast until falling victim to the 3-way attack.  Then down to three, everything was going well until Banks’ elimination via the exposed turnbuckle.  There was just one big problem: the buckle wasn’t exposed.  This seemed to take a lot of the steam out of the match and after a few botches, it was over.

Sometimes it’s unfair to have some very high expectations.  But it’s Wrestlemania.  You have to find a way to stun the crowd and these girls just didn’t have it Sunday night.  Maybe I’m being a bit tough on them, but these are four of the very best female wrestlers in the company’s history and this match should’ve reflected that.  Sadly, it didn’t.

Verdict: Did Not Meet Expectations
