For a while, it looked like John Cena vs. Undertaker would be the plan for WrestleMania 33. It’s the star-studded match with two WWE Hall of Famers that the fans clamored to see. They faced off in the early days of SmackDown, but never on a major stage, like WrestleMania.
Plans changed, of course, as Roman Reigns faced and defeated the Dead Man in Sunday night’s main event. Not quite the dream match scenario as Cena’s was, but if anyone ever wanted a Reigns vs. ‘Taker one-on-one, they got it.
This will leave fans wanting a Cena vs. Undertaker match even more, however. It’s much like Sting, the other dream bout everyone wanted to see for WrestleMania 31, and then WrestleMania 32, until the WCW Icon suffered a career-ending injury at Night of Champions 2015.
The Face That Runs the Place vs. the owner of a 23-2 WrestleMania record can still be seen, but only in WWE 2K17. That will never be enough, though, because a match between these two could have main evented any WrestleMania and provide us with an unforgettable moment.
