The Long Awaited Heel-Turn?

Over the past several months, Roman Reigns has slowly been teasing an arrogant side to his character. It started at the Royal Rumble, when the Big Dog tossed the Undertaker out of the match and declared that WWE was “his yard”. As time progressed that belief only continued to grow in his mind, and so he chose to head into WrestleMania intent on retiring the Dead Man. Now that the dust has settled from the event, it seems that Reigns has gotten his wish.

In one short sentence, Reigns took advantage of all of the heat he gained from retiring Undertaker. Declaring that the ring is his yard now, he received a deafening chorus of boos from the live audience. Some would consider this a bad thing considering Reigns has seemingly been destined to be the good guy of this generation. However, at the end of the day the only thing that matters is the crowd’s reaction.

If Roman Reigns went out to a jam-packed arena and all he garnered was silence, that would be an issue. Based upon the massive reactions he gets every single week, this is something the Big Dog has already accomplished. Since the fans enjoy booing Reigns, the company is going to be more than willing to oblige.

Odds are, the more heelish side of Reigns that we’ve seen as of late is the furthest he will go down that path. His current gimmick wouldn’t fit in well with other heel personas, making it rather difficult to place him in that field. This isn’t to say that Reigns won’t ever turn heel, just that the time to do so hasn’t arrived.
