AJ Lee Comments on Potential Wrestling Ring Return

Former WWE star AJ Lee spoke in an interview about if she’ll ever return to a wrestling ring.

AJ Lee had been one of WWE’s most popular female competitors for a handful of years. She ruled over the former Divas division, becoming the longest reigning WWE Divas Champion in 2014, hitting 295 days.

Shortly after WrestleMania 31, Lee announced her retirement from wrestling. It came a little over one year after her husband (she wasn’t married to him at the time), CM Punk, controversially walked out on WWE after the 2014 Royal Rumble. He had been in a legal dispute with the company, too, so it placed Lee in a somewhat unprecedented situation.

Well, it’s been over two years since the 30-year-old has stepped into a WWE ring. So, during an interview with CBS Sports to promote Lee’s book Crazy is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules, she was asked about a potential return to wrestling:

"I never would say that because I’ve personally said never to things before and done them. But I am so happy where I am right now and I feel like I had such a pitch perfect career that I would be nervous about tarnishing that. I feel like it’s kind of full-circle and perfect for exactly what I wanted. But who knows?"

It doesn’t sound like she’s completely ruling it out, giving a slight nod to the “never say never” adage that Chuck Carroll, who conducted this interview, noted in the question. Things always change in the wrestling business, so maybe we will see Lee back. Based on these comments, however, it doesn’t seem like that will happen anytime soon.
