The Wicked Witch Dominates Raw

In just two weeks time, Alexa Bliss has gone from relative newcomer to the number one contender for the Raw Women’s Championship. When she first made the jump from the Blue Brand, some fans were nervous that the former champion would get lost in the shuffle. Last Monday put an end to those concerns, as now Bliss stands head and shoulders above the other women in the division.

While the number one contender gears up for her match at Payback, the champion Bayley has struggled to gain significant momentum. She can retain the title when it’s up for grabs, but other than that she regularly suffers clean losses on television. That may work for an underdog such as Sami Zayn, however, Bayley’s character is somewhat different.

Since winning the championship due to Sasha Banks’ assistance, Bayley has faced difficulty establishing herself as a proper champion. This is something that needs to be fixed sooner rather than later. Fans have to believe that she is capable of winning a high stakes match on her own. That isn’t possible if the champion is being booked to lose more often that she wins.

If WWE is intending on having Bayley compete against Sasha Banks in the future, the champion needs to be viewed as a credible threat. Monday’s episode serves as a perfect time for her to begin building up her reputation as a tough and resilient superstar. A potential tag team match against the challenger, Alexa Bliss, could also serve two purposes. First, the two women can continue to promote their upcoming title match. Second, if Sasha Banks is confirmed as Bayley’s partner, creative can continue to tease the tension between them.
