The Lone Wolf Returns

After delivering an unwarranted assault to Sami Zayn on the set of Talking Smack, Baron Corbin received a one-week suspension. Missing last week’s episode, The Lone Wolf had to watch on the sidelines as Zayn was allowed to compete on SmackDown Live. Now that his suspension is complete, he’s poised to make an impactful return to the Blue Brand. The only question is; what’s he planning to do?

Based upon his recent actions, we can assume that Corbin has his sight set on the Underdog from the Underground. The two are vastly different competitors, and so a rivalry between them would be exciting and engaging for fans. Their match could benefit the Backlash card immensely, as there aren’t that many contests announced for the show yet. Promoting these two and giving them ample time to build a compelling storyline is the way to go.

When the dust from Backlash finally settles, it’ll be interesting to see which man is going to stand tall. Normally, I’d be rooting for a victory for Zayn, seeing as how he’s never really given defining wins for his career. However, one factor that has to be considered is the approaching Summerslam event. SmackDown Live is going to attempt and deliver a better card than Monday Night Raw, and it may do so by keeping an eye on the future.

If Randy Orton retains his WWE Championship against Jinder Mahal, I imagine that the Lone Wolf will emerge as the new number one contender. Should that happen, it’d make sense for WWE to go him a big win at Backlash. Therein lies the problem with this situation. Zayn is the perfect superstar to help push another talent up the ranks, but when will he get his shot at glory?
