WWE SmackDown Live Results: Highlights, Analysis, and Grades for May 9

Main Event Announced

We get the main event of SmackDown announced, with the previous six men in a tag match, as noted.

Carmella, Tamina and James Ellsworth Promo

We get a strange promo from Ellsworth, who mocks the London fans. Carmella makes fun of the crowd and brings out Natalya.

Naomi then enters the venue and brings out Becky Lynch. Charlotte comes down to the ring to accompany the faces at ringside, too.

Becky Lynch vs. Natalya

Result: Natalya defeated Becky Lynch via pinfall.

Rating: 2.0 out of 5 stars

Carmella, Natalya and Tamina are still going by the “Welcoming Committee,” so it looks like this is sticking. An odd choice for a name, but we’ll see if it sinks in any more than it has. It should be noted these heels haven’t actually called themselves the “Welcoming Committee” yet.

Commentary spoke about the heels not asking for a title opportunity, while Charlotte simply did and had a championship match. Are we saying all Carmella, Natalya and Tamina needed to do was speak up then?

The ringside distraction got Natalya the win in a somewhat short match. It saw the Welcoming Committee trying to start a fight with Naomi, but it was enough to get Lynch’s attention.

We’re bound to get these six women in a tag team match at Backlash. It still won’t solve the SmackDown Women’s Championship picture, but should move us closer.
