With Braun Strowman off WWE programming for 4-8 weeks, how could the main event scene of Extreme Rules look?

WWE Extreme Rules 2017 will take place on Sunday, June 4, and be Raw’s next exclusive pay-per-view. The latest one saw Payback go down, which had Roman Reigns vs, Braun Strowman close the show. Brock Lesnar and the Universal Championship weren’t around, so it marked the first of a potential string of Raw PPVs where this belt wouldn’t be present.

WWE is going to run into that issue again for Extreme Rules, with Lesnar being nowhere to be found before the show. His first title defense isn’t taking place until July 9’s Great Balls of Fire PPV, so other plans have to be made to fill the main event scene for at least one more big event.

Well, this will have to be done without Strowman. He’s going to be out 4-8 weeks with an elbow injury, which takes him out of the potential Extreme Rules main event and leaves WWE having to shuffle its plans. It’s not the first time this has happened and won’t be the last, so something will be done to adjust Raw programming – perhaps multiple things.

The main event scene is the issue, though. WWE has to work to find a suitable match to close the show, without doing Reigns vs. Strowman. There are options, which may result from current feuds being mixed, nixed or created, but getting there may be complicated and result in continuity issues which WWE won’t be able to avoid.

What can WWE use to main event Extreme Rules? Will it be for another title? Let’s look at potential matches to close the show.
