3. Seth Rollins vs. Samoa Joe

It’s difficult to say there’s a “safe option” for where WWE could go with the main event of Extreme Rules, But, if they want to use a feud that’s been ongoing for three months that has had some fan investment, then Seth Rollins vs. Samoa Joe could be the choice to close the show.

We saw a preview of what Rollins and Joe can do together at Payback. Their match wasn’t main event-caliber, but it provided enough to think we could see more out of the two – especially when Rollins pinned Joe without using his finishing move. This left the Samoan Submission Machine angered and wanting revenge, which he sought on the succeeding episode of Raw.

Rolling with Joe vs. Rollins may not be out of the equation, but this hasn’t been a feud WWE treated like a main event program at all. It’s been in the upper-card of Raw, but to suddenly make it the feud to focus around for Extreme Rules would be tough, along with nothing being on the line. While the same can be said for Reigns vs. Strowman, this feud had been made to be the ultimate one with the punishment and blood, and main eventing Payback.

Rollins vs. Joe should still receive a high spot on the Extreme Rules card, but it probably won’t main event. It should still be up for consideration, though, with nothing clear-cut, as of Thursday.
