2. WWE Intercontinental Championship Match
Dean Ambrose (c) vs. The Miz vs. Roman Reigns

For the past two episodes of Raw, the WWE Intercontinental Championship has closed the show. First, it was the No. 1 Contenders Match with Rollins, the Miz and Finn Balor battling over who will face Dean Ambrose for the belt. The A-Lister won, presumably setting a match up for Extreme Rules.

However, as seen on the most recent Raw, Ambrose vs. Miz will take place on the next episode of the Flagship Show. While WWE has placed title matches on their weekly TV shows before, only to lead to a rematch at the subsequent PPV, this felt like an abrupt announcement that may have stemmed from Strowman’s injury. So, are we in for a one-off here?

Well, this may be the case, but the Intercontinental Championship picture could grow for Extreme Rules. WWE can find a way to work in Reigns by having him try to step up to Ambrose, saying “Brock Lesnar isn’t here, so I want the top title on Raw.” If Miz lost in a fluky finish in his match, he can then enter the fray to continue his championship desires.

Anytime Reigns is placed in a feud, it can main event a WWE PPV. He’s been treated as a big enough star to give that appeal with just about anything he does, which comes into play with the Universal Championship not around. So, throw the Big Dog into the Intercontinental Championship mix, boost the picture and have it close out Extreme Rules. This can only help the often middling title.
