Who are the five best performers in the history of the WWE Backlash pay-per-view?

On May 21, live from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ilinois, the Smackdown Live brand will bring to it’s fans, WWE Backlash.  The pay-per-view was a staple of the WWE for over a decade, holding the event annually from 1999-2009. Usually being booked shortly after WrestleMania each year, Backlash always seemed to turn out great showings, particularly in years 2004, 2007, and 2009.  However, after 2009, the show was dropped from the normal rotation until last year when it made a triumphant return in a card that showed AJ Styles walk out as champion.

So now in 2017, the PPV is once again back.  As part of Smackdown Live brand that houses talents like the Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Randy Orton, and the aforementioned Styles, the 2017 version of Backlash could potentially be very good.  But can this year live up to some of the past shows?  There have been some incredible matches as part of Backlash and there were certain guys who always had their “A” game when performing for it.  Could this year’s pack of superstars begin to etch their Backlash legacy?

So in keeping with the theme of shows passed, let’s take a look at some of the wrestlers who have paved the way for the Backlash PPV.  Ahead we count down this show’s all time best performers.
