4. John Cena

You know, every day people roast John Cena.  How many times can an arena chant “you can’t wrestle” until one day they realize he really can?  Look, I’m no Cena fan, but the more and more I do pieces like this, the more he tends to be in the running.  At the end of the day, maybe the guy isn’t the best mat technician or high-flyer, but what he is, is a ridiculously good entertainer.  And his performance at the five Backlash’s he’s competed at are are a testament to exactly that.

Now Cena is another guy that’s not holding an impressive Backlash record.  He’s 2-3 and things didn’t start great for him at the 2003 event as he was dismantled by Brock Lesnar over the course of a very courageous 15 minutes.  But he battled back in 2006, retaining the WWE Championship in a wild Triple Threat Match against Edge and Triple H.  A year later he was successful again, this time in a fatal four-way against Edge, Shawn Michaels, and Randy Orton in what was one of the best matches of 2007.

Cena ended his Backlash run with two losses.  One in the 2008 Backlash Elimination Chamber and one in another vicious battle with Edge 2009, this one a Last Man Standing Match.  Say what you want about Cena, but this isn’t the only show where he consistently shines and even now at age 40, he’s still bringing the goods.  Once he returns from his current hiatus, look for him to pick right back up where he left off.
