WWE United States Championship Match
Kevin Owens (c) vs. AJ Styles

One of the major pluses of The Superstar Shakeup is fans are able to get the chance to see feuds and matches they couldn’t last year. This match is the prime example of the positives of the Shakeup.

Kevin Owens and AJ Styles were viewed as two of the top stars on their respected brands last year. On RAW, Owens was the Universal Champion and held the belt for six months defeating stars such as Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.

Styles became the face of Smackdown Live and was the WWE Champion for about four months. The two are now set to clash for the United States Championship this Sunday at Backlash.

Styles became the No. 1 contender for the championship last month when he won a triple threat match involving Baron Corbin and Sami Zayn. Styles now looks to win his first ever United States Championship at Backlash.

Kevin Owens brought U.S. Championship over in the Shakeup, however he would lose the title to his rival and former best friend Chris Jericho at Payback. This would loss would in result bring Jericho to Smackdown as well.

The following Tuesday on Smackdown Live, Owens would invoke his rematch clause and win back his title, now setting up a match between him and Styles. For many this match is a dream match and a contest fans have been waiting for.

With their fantastic ring work the two should have a great match, but the ending might leave fans wanting more. Owens will do anything remain champion. If things start going south for the New Face of America, look for him to take a cheap loss and leave with his title.

These two seemed poised to feud till the early half of the Summer so look for the result of this match as a way to continue their feud past Backlash.

Winner by disqualification: AJ Styles
