On Friday afternoon, a special WWE UK Championship show was aired. This displayed matches that took place weeks prior, at WWE’s first taping for its United Kingdom talents.

Four bouts went down, which featured UK stars and members of WWE 205 Live. Two of them had title implications, which the others were showcases for Wolfgang, Joseph Conners, Dan Moloney and three former WWE Cruiserweight Champions.

The highlight of the show would be determining the WWE UK Championship Match for NXT TakeOver: Chicago. To get to it, Tyler Bate had to defend the title against Mark Andrews. The winner of this will face the winner of Pete Dunne vs. Trent Seven. Which two are headed to the Windy City?

Plenty of thrilling action went down, which was called by Jim Ross and Nigel McGuinness (they’re calling Saturday’s UK Championship Match). Let’s see the results from the WWE UK Championship Special.

Wolfgang vs. Joseph Conners

Result: Wolfgang defeated Joseph Conners via pinfall.

Rating: 2.75 out of 5 stars

Wolfgang had a steady run in the United Kingdom Tournament in January. He made it all the way to the semifinals, but lost to Tyler Bate, the eventual UK champion. This Scotsman should play a marquee role on this eventual WWE UK show, whenever it takes place.

Joseph Conners didn’t have a deep run in the tournament, but he’s been featured on plenty of promotional material. Could we be in store for Conners playing a significant part in WWE UK?

Wolfie had the crowd behind him, being the much more popular wrestler of the two. Plenty of offense was there from him, including possibly bloodying Conners’ mouth just minutes in.

Conners finally recovered after knocking Wolfgang out of the ring, working on the injured ribs. He had a methodical attack, which ignited the crowd to get further behind Wolfgang.

The action stayed even, as Jim Ross noted during the broadcast. It did until Wolfgang found an opening, hit a spear and the Howling for the win.

This match stayed at one, somewhat methodical pace for its majority. That’s not a bad thing, as it was an appetizer for what’s to come, but this wasn’t anything that really went to a second level.

Depending on what happens at TakeOver: Chicago, Wolfgang should be able to get in on the UK Championship hunt. The opportunity will be there if Bate doesn’t retain.
