The United States Champion Has Arrived

At the top of the hour, SmackDown Live begins with backstage promos featuring the five women participating in the 5-Way match later tonight. For those of who you don’t know, the five females are Becky Lynch, Carmella, Charlotte Flair, Natalya, and Tamina Snuka.

Once the promos conclude, the cameras go to the arena where Kevin Owens is inside the ring for another version of his “Highlight Reel”. After calling himself the Face of America and insulting Chris Jericho, he invites Shinsuke Nakamura down as his guest for this evening. The King of Strong Style then arrives on the scene, receiving a pretty decent crowd reaction in the process.

Not wasting any time, Owens belittles Nakamura for his dancing during his entrance and chooses to continue the insults. Reminding him that he recently “retired” Jericho, the United States champion put his recent rival on notice. Before Nakamura had a chance to respond, Baron Corbin made a surprise appearance.

Stating that people want to hear from a real superstar, Corbin opts to show a video highlighting his attack on Sami Zayn. He follows this up with insults directed at both Nakamura and Owens. In response, Owens pokes fun at the Lone Wolf, saying that he’s been destroying Zayn for years. Nakamura responds as well, reminding Corbin and Owens about their losses last week.

Angered at the reminder, the Lone Wolf hit the ring and attacked Nakamura. The Prizefighter joined in as well, and things seemed bleak until Zayn made the save. Taking a nearby mic, he challenged the heel duo to a tag team match. The contest was then made official, and the results will be discussed on the next slide.
