Bobby Roode in a Car

Roode said he won’t be on this episode of WWE NXT, but will be there “next week.” Who will step up to him next?

Pete Dunne vs. Danny Burch

Result: Pete Dunne defeated Danny Burch via pinfall.

Rating: 3.0 out of 5 stars

You know there’s a special talent on hand when the entire venue gets on its feet to react, which is what happened with Dunne’s entrance. How often does that even happen in WWE NXT anymore?

Dunne has all the momentum on his side as the hottest performer among the WWE UK stars. He should get the opportunity to hold the WWE UK Championship for a while, even past the debut date of the weekly show, something that still hasn’t been officially set. It’s pretty much been made clear the Bruiserweight and Tyler Bate will be the top two stars of the program, receiving by far the most focus of any of the other British wrestlers.

This match was all about a showcase for Dunne, continuing that momentum he saw take off at TakeOver: Chicago. Burch has proven to be a good enhancement talent again (he previously worked this role as Martin Stone in NXT), and made Dunne look like a million bucks, which is about everything you can ask for.

Burch received a handful of time in this match, too, which was a little strange after Dunne’s big moment at TakeOver; it almost seemed like they’re trying to establish the 35-year-old for the weekly show. While that’s not a bad thing, it shouldn’t have come against someone whose star level just reached another level.

Will this mean anything for Dunne? No. He’ll move on and continue his dominance elsewhere. So let’s focus on how talented this wrestler is and eventually see him on the main roster, which he’s talented enough to be on.

After the match, Dunne cut a promo on Bate previously holding the WWE UK Championship. Dunne said the brand started with him in January.
