WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match
Neville (c) vs. Rich Swann

At Extreme Rules, Neville put away Austin Aries in their third encounter. He won a Submissions match to retain the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, the only belt that’s changed hands just once in 2017.

Aries had been the top contender to Neville for about three months, so hardly anyone else was built up to replace his spot. That changed at Extreme Rules, however, with Rich Swann winning a tag team match with Sasha Banks, defeating Noam Dar and Alicia Fox.

Swann isn’t unfamiliar to the Cruiserweight Championship, having been the third Superstar to hold it. He last held the belt at January’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view, losing it to Neville, and has mostly been on the outside looking in since.

While Swann is one of the most exciting stars of the WWE Cruiserweight division, he represents a lack of other viable contenders. Jack Gallagher preceded Aries in the hunt for the title, while TJP, the only other babyface to receive a legitimate chance, is now a heel. So it leaves WWE with few others, unless they look toward Cedric Alexander.
