2. Call Out John Cena

The money matchup WWE has waiting is Roman Reigns vs. John Cena. It’s tailor-made for WrestleMania, something that can headline as soon as WrestleMania 34. However, what if WWE made it for SummerSlam?

Cena vs. Reigns at SummerSlam is a guaranteed headliner and seller for a main event. The Barclays Center will sellout, either way, but for fan interest, this is an ultimate match. It’s the Face of the Past and the Face of the Future colliding, something that will garner all-time great dueling chants. “Let’s go Cena” and “Let’s go Reigns” will fill the venue, with fans actually having to pick a side.

What also goes in Reigns’ favor is Cena apparently being a “free agent.” He had been exclusive to SmackDown Live, but with this vignette gearing him toward not being associated with either brand, it leaves the door open for a Raw feud, the show Reigns belongs to.

However, this is a tailor-made feud for WrestleMania. It’s a matchup WWE can use to build the show for weeks to fill out a 70,000-plus seat venue, and not the Barclays Center. SummerSlam is still a big event, but it doesn’t come close to the magnitude of WrestleMania. So saving this for April 2018 or 2019 seems more likely.
