6. Rob Van Dam

Rob Van Dam is and always will be one of WWE’s most likable guys. So, it should be no surprise that RVD would eventually become WWE Champion, right?

Wrong. It was very surprising. This is because Rob Van Dam was an ECW guy, and he was facing John Cena, and he was already the ECW Champion, and the title match was at ECW’s PPV. However, despite all odds, Rob Van Dam came out with the WWE Championship.

Being your typical good guy, RVD wanted to win the title fairly, so he scheduled a match for the WWE Championship rather than cashing in at an opportune time. This actually may have proved to be a bigger advantage for RVD.

This is because their scheduled match was in front of the ever hostile ECW crowd, and that crowd erupted for Rob Van Dam and would boo and heckle John Cena relentlessly.

The match was great, and the crowd’s heavy involvement made it even more entertaining. Sure, it would have been nice to see RVD pick up the win without outside help from Edge, but at least he still did the impossible of picking up a win over John Cena.

It’s a shame that Rob Van Dam got a marijuana charge right after this because there is no telling how far RVD could have gone with this push.

At least his cash in made for one of the most memorable matches in both Rob Van Dam and John Cena’s careers.
