Breezango & The New Day vs The Colons & The Usos

Result: Breezango & The New Day wins via pinfall

Rating: 3.75 out of 5 stars

At the top of the hour, SmackDown Live broke away from its traditional routine and shifted straight into the first match of the evening. The New Day were already making their entrance to the ring, and so they decided to talk about the Tag Title match this Sunday. Declaring their intention to win, the trio was promptly interrupted by The Usos. The two teams talked a bit of trash until Breezango and The Colons joined in on the action.

Once the talking came to an end, the match began with Jimmy Uso and Fandango inside the ring. Eager to fight Kofi Kingston, Jimmy taunted him to make a tag, but immediately tagged out when he did so. Regardless, the faces were able to gain control of the action from here, and heading into the commercial break seemed on the path to victory.

When the cameras shifted back to the action, Primo was damaging Tyler Breeze, allowing the heels to recuperate for a time. Breeze managed to fight back and tag in Xavier Woods a few minutes later, and the match began to stir out of control. Taking the Usos out of the equation with his team’s assistance, Woods ended the match when he and Kingston double-teamed Primo for the win.

A strong match to open up the show, this contest allowed other teams to shine within the upcoming Tag Team Championship match’s spotlight. Having New Day score the pinfall was a wise decision as well, and it creates doubt over whether or not The Usos are capable of retaining the belts.
