Follow along with our review for Wednesday night’s episode of WWE NXT.

On Wednesday night, the latest episode of WWE NXT took place. It emanated from Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL, and continued the results from May’s TV taping.

The main event saw Asuka defend the NXT Women’s Championship against Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross. This came in an Elimination match. These three faced off at NXT TakeOver: Chicago, with Asuka having a successful defense. Who walked out of this match with the title?

Other top names were in action, too, like Drew McIntyre and The Authors of Pain. Did they win their respective matches?

Let’s see what happened during this episode of NXT, along with potential fallout for the show:

Drew McIntyre vs. Rob Ryzin

Result: Drew McIntyre defeated Rob Ryzin via pinfall.

This match didn’t mean much toward McIntyre’s WWE NXT status, but what happened last week did. Roderick Strong essentially challenged for Bobby Roode’s NXT Championship, which came on the heels of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III’s official announcement. While the potential match won’t be confirmed for a while, it leaves the Scotsman in an interesting position.

If McIntyre won’t contend for the NXT Championship in August, then what will he do? Given how non-title feuds get developed within the final two weeks for TakeOver shows, the plans for the former 3MB member may not be known for maybe eight weeks.

In the meantime, McIntyre can work a No. 1 Contenders match, maybe taking a similar route to Strong. He’ll lose this, but get inserted into the title picture at the TakeOver that succeeds Brooklyn III.

As for Wednesday’s in-ring action, McIntyre just toyed with Ryzin for about five minutes. Nothing more than that to note.
