WWE Money in the Bank 2017: Carmella is Sleeper Pick to Win Briefcase

With the first ever Women’s Money in the Bank match less than a week away, we look at why Carmella could be the sleeper to leave with the briefcase.

The Women’s Revolution in WWE continues to flourish as the company is about to make more history on Sunday. Two weeks ago on Smackdown Live, we were supposed to see a five-way Elimination match. It was supposed to involve Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Carmella, Natalya and Tamina with the winner becoming No. 1 contender. However, chaos broke out before the match could begin with the women attacking one another outside the ring.

After all the chaos had settled down, Smackdown Live Commissioner, Shane McMahon announced that the five women would compete in the first ever Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

Just like with the men’s briefcase, the winner of the match receives a championship bout opportunity for anytime anyplace they want with the contract being good for one full year. As we have seen in the past winning Money in the Bank almost guarantees you will become champion.

Out of the 17 past cash in’s, 15 of them have resulted in the winner of Money in the Bank becoming World Champion when they cashed in. With odds like this, it seems likely that the female who leaves on Sunday with the briefcase will eventually become Smackdown Women’s Champion.

If this was a regular match these two would clearly be the clear favorites to win, however, this is a ladder match where anyone has a chance. As we have seen in the past in ladder matches it’s sometimes the person you least expect to win.

With all of this in mind, we could a sleeper win the match stunning the crowd and stopping Lynch and Flair from achieving history. With all of this in mind, there is no bigger sleeper to win this match than The Princess of Staten Island, Carmella.

It seems that most fans are already counting out Carmella from having a chance of actually winning the match. This though can work in her favor as while Tamina and Natalya will focus on Lynch and Flair, Carmella could pick her spots and climb the ladder at the right time to win the match.

Another card that The Princess of Staten Island has in her deck is the addition of James Ellsworth in her corner. Say what you want about Ellsworth but he has certainly helped Carmella during their time together on Smackdown Live.

Ellsworth could get involved in the match helping Carmella climb the ladder and receiving the briefcase. We have seen people aid competitors in the match before and it helped them win the match.

When Seth Rollins won the briefcase he had Kane come to his aid helping The Architect win the briefcase. Ellsworth could do the same and his presence could be the factor to help Carmella win the match. Ellsworth could also sacrifice himself to protect Carmella, so the fact that she has him out there could be a huge factor for her.

In the overall booking for this match, WWE might want to go in a direction on giving the briefcase to someone so it enhances them and helps develop them. Charlotte and Becky Lynch are already stars and while Money in the Bank would be a huge accomplishment for either, it’s not dire that either of them wins.

Natalya and Tamina are both towards the end of their careers with both of them being in their late to mid 30’s. The two seem like they will be the veterans helping to enhance and develop new talent that joins the roster so it seems they won’t win either.

That leaves the young and still developing Carmella. Since coming up from NXT last summer, The Princess of Staten Island has continued to progress both on the microphone and on the ring. Her character defiantly fits the bill of a sneaky competitor who you could truly believe would cash in at the right moment.

Giving her the briefcase would allow her to continue to grow in the ring and when ready could cash in and become Smackdown Women’s Champion. So while fans might feel like it will be either  Flair or Lynch winning, don’t be surprised if the former valet for Enzo Amore and Big Cass shocks the world and becomes Miss Money in the Bank.
