The SmackDown Live Tag Team Division

Highlights of the Division

The Usos and the New Day had a terrific match at Money in the Bank but it ended horribly with the count-out. It seems that the WWE was put in a corner of how to protect both teams while trying to extend the feud throughout the summer. With Big E’s victory over Jimmy Uso on Smackdown, the New Day are still in the running for a future title shot. The tag champs have looked strong as of late but they shouldn’t be losing in non-title matches—even in singles competition. Championships matter in this business—challengers shouldn’t get title opportunities by beating the champions.

That’s where the Hype Bros come in—they should be facing the Usos in a title match next week. Zack Ryder has been going nuts trying to get a title shot and now he’s settling to beat the champs twice just to win the championship? This type of logic doesn’t make sense for a challenger or the TV viewer at all. If the Hype Bros do beat the Usos—it diminishes the champions in the eyes of the fans. But there could be a possibility of the Hype Bros dissolving if they don’t beat the champs. There is a money feud and story behind Zack Ryder attacking Rawley for not beating the champs. Maybe that’s an angle the WWE might entertain?

American Alpha did make a comeback of sorts this week on Smackdown Live. Chad Gable answered the open challenge against Kevin Owens and lost in a decent match. The former champs should be given more opportunities in the ring but also backstage as well. They could definitely pop by in Breezango’s fashion files segments and who knows—they could have an entertaining feud down the line if the chips fall.

Let’s see the rankings for the division this week.
