Samoa Joe Nearly Chokes Out Brock Lesnar on WWE Raw (Video)
Samoa Joe got the best of Brock Lesnar during the third hour of Monday’s episode of WWE Raw.
Samoa Joe won the opportunity to become the No. 1 Contender to Brock Lesnar’s WWE Universal Championship at Extreme Rules. It set their match up for the Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view, which will take place on July 9.
On the June 19 episode of Raw, Joe and Lesnar brawled, but got separated by the rest of the WWE roster. It heated up tensions between the two foes, with things only getting turned up another level on the following show.
Lesnar arrived for the 10:00 p.m. ET hour of Raw, and as Paul Heyman said, the Beast showed up for a fight with Joe. So as Heyman introduced the Universal Champion to the ring, Joe attacked him from behind and made multiple attempts to lock in the Coquina Clutch. The last try had it locked in, until the WWE roster broke up the fight.
This is the most vulnerable Lesnar has looked since the middle of the Goldberg feud for WrestleMania 33. He didn’t go fully to the ground, but still looked weak and had a face that looked as purple as the ropes the cruiserweights use on Raw.
Lesnar and Joe are less than two weeks away from Great Balls of Fire, where they will collide on Raw’s final PPV before SummerSlam. It’s an opportunity for either one to potentially main event one of WWE’s top shows of the year, something that could make Joe’s young main roster career.
