5. It Will Be a Face vs. Heel
While much of the WWE Universe disagrees with this decision, Roman Reigns has been and is continuing to be booked as a face.
On the flip side of things, the some of the WWE Universe may like Samoa Joe or Brock Lesnar or Braun Strowman, but all three of these men have been and will continue to be booked as heels going forward.
Sure, there could be a heel vs. heel Universal Championship match at a PPV. In fact, the upcoming bout of Samoa Joe vs. Brock Lesnar will be a heel vs. heel contest.
However, this is only a RAW exclusive PPV. More “smarks” will be inclined to watch and enjoy this contest, while casual fans will not be much of a concern due to their lack of interest in the small PPVs.
Although, when it comes to SummerSlam, one of WWE’s three biggest shows of the year, it is imperative that the show can appeal and attract casual fans. This is why WWE needs to go with a basic face vs. heel storyline for the main event.
Unlike the complex nature of the Samoa Joe vs. Brock Lesnar bout, a face vs. heel dynamic will create a story that will be easy to follow and characters that the WWE Universe will quickly be able to understand and invest in.
This will, in the eyes of WWE’s top guys, be a more enjoyable experience for the casual fans and will have them tuning into the next episode of RAW to see what will happen next now that they feel like they are caught up with the storyline.
With Roman Reigns being the only face that is currently in the discussion for who will main event SummerSlam, he is a necessity at the top of the card in a match for the Universal Championship.

4. It Will Help with Merchandise Sales
WWE, before anything else, is a business. Vince McMahon will make sure no one will forget, and neither will Triple H. This is why putting Roman Reigns in the main event of SummerSlam will be “best for business”.
Roman Reigns, despite being the most hated man in wrestling, has had a steady run atop the list of merchandise sales by performers. Other than the merchandise machines of John Cena and The New Day, Roman Reigns has reigned above most throughout the majority of his singles run.
Even more exposure to casual fans and even more success in the ring will only help those figures grow, and that means more money for everybody. This may be something that WWE officials will try to focus on because Roman had a new shirt released somewhat recently, and it could greatly benefit from the promotion.
Brock Lesnar, being the mega star he is, will also be able to help with merchandise sales if he is in the main event of SummerSlam, but if Samoa Joe is Reigns’ opponent, Reigns will need to carry the load in that category.
Braun Strowman, just isn’t capable of helping out WWE financially in these big positions just yet, especially considering he only has one shirt on the WWE Shop so far.
So, from a business perspective, Roman Reigns really is The Guy whether fans would like to admit it or not. That is why Roman should be in the main event of SummerSlam.
