RAW Women’s Championship Match
Alexa Bliss (c) vs Sasha Banks
On April 30th at Payback, Alexa Bliss defeated Bayley and became the first woman to ever have won both the RAW and Smackdown Women’s Championships. It was a major achievement for “5 Feet of Fury” and not too shabby of an accomplishment for a wrestler who’s only been in the business for 4 years. Since then, she’s used every trick in her book to remain champion, going as far as kissing up to Nia Jax for protection. Now she heads into Great Balls of Fire against a 3-time world champion who currently will be much heavier competition than what Bayley is currently putting out.
It’s nice to see Banks back in the title picture. 2017 hasn’t been all that kind to “The Boss” so far as she’s been on the losing end quite a bit. However, she came up huge on the June 26th episode of RAW, securing a victory in a gauntlet match that firmly positioned her as number 1 contender. She heads into Sunday with a lot to prove. Did her 2016 feud with Charlotte burn her out? Or is she gearing up for another successful run as the top female on the red brand? This match at Great Balls of Fire will tell a lot when it comes to the future of both these ladies.
However, I have a feeling those questions won’t get answered Sunday night. There are too many variables. For one, this is a feud that has a huge future. Bliss and Banks are a perfect fit for each other and could make a compelling enough feud to go to Summerslam with. There’s no way that this will be a one and done so, therefore, a clean victory for either girl doesn’t seem pliable. Also, we need to factor in Jax. She stole the show in the aforementioned gauntlet match and will undoubtedly look to spoil this one. This is either going to be a double DQ or Bliss will win with Jax’s help. I’m going with the latter.
Winner and still champion: Alexa Bliss
