3. To End the Styles vs. Owens Feud at Battleground

Styles and Owens have been embroiled in a heated feud ever since Styles won a No. 1 contenders match for Kevin Owens’ United States Championship. Styles went on to lose to Owens at Backlash via count out.

After both competitors failed to win the Money in the Bank ladder match, the two Superstars continued their feud. Styles attempted to respond to Kevin Owens’ open challenge, but Owens wouldn’t allow him to compete.

AJ Styles then began to jump through hoops in order to have another opportunity at Kevin Owens’ belt. He managed to convince Daniel Bryan to have an Independence Day Battle Royal, defeated Chad Gable to earn his entry into that match, and won the battle royal to face Owens for the US Championship at Battleground.

So, it was surprising to hear that Styles won the United States Championship before their match at Battleground. It looked as though these two were going to be in a summer-long feud, but now that is in question.

The original plan for this feud may have been that Styles would win the belt at Battleground, and SummerSlam would be where Owens would get his rematch, and that would be the blow off match to the feud.

Now, since Styles won the belt at a Live event, it looks as though Owens will get his rematch at Battleground, and that will be the end of their feud. Perhaps, this feud will be shortened due to the need to get Styles and/or Owens a new opponent at SummerSlam.

Will we now be seeing Styles vs. Nakamura at SummerSlam? Owens vs. Zayn? Styles vs. Rusev? No one knows, but Styles winning the US Championship at a Live event certainly has left a variety of opponents available for these two for SummerSlam.
