R-Truth vs. Goldust

Result: Goldust defeated R-Truth via pinfall

Rating: 2.75 out of 5 stars

Here’s a rematch from two weeks ago – technically, it’s a redo, since things never got started first time around. So WWE’s longest running continuous story will last until at least the end of this match.

The match was only a bit longer than six minutes or so, but for such a short time there was a lot crammed in there. The two built off of their knowledge of each other’s offense, with counters ready to go for most signature moves. Have you ever seen anyone counter Goldust’s drop down punch like Truth did, by dropping down with him and slapping him?

There was a bunch of psychology mixed in, too. Goldust spent a good part of the match wearing down Truth’s knee/leg. Why would he do that if he uses a suplex-type finisher? Because one of Truth’s signature moves is a scissors kick. If you have a weak leg, you’re not going to have as much behind your kicks. Goldust is a twenty-plus year veteran, of course he knows that.

If this was the end of the Golden Truth saga, I’m glad it was given as much love and attention as it was. Sure, it fell by the wayside occasionally. They never got that tag title run they probably deserved. But their story lasted over a year and a half, which is pretty impressive.
