Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair
Result: Becky Lynch wins via submission
Rating: 3.75 out of 5 stars
Stemming from the backstage segment involving these two women earlier in the night, the next match of the evening had Charlotte Flair going up against Becky Lynch. Considering that these athletes have known one another since their days in NXT, this match had plenty of potential. As an added bonus, Natalya decided to watch the match from the commentary table.
While they weren’t given a lot of time to work with, Charlotte and Lynch produced a solid back and forth affair. Both were given a chance to shine, dishing out plenty of offense and pushing through the pain inflicted on them. Frequent counters allowed control of the contest to shift rapidly, and in turn kept fans guessing about who was going to win.
Later on in the match, a slight mistake ended up costing the Queen a huge victory. Dodging a moonsault attempt, Lynch went on to secure a DisArmHer in the center of the ring. With nowhere to go, Charlotte had no choice but to tap out to the submission maneuver. Although she earned the win, Lynch was quickly attacked from behind by Natalya, Lana, and Tamina Snuka. Once Lynch was taken care of, Charlotte was thrown to the outside and Tamina leveled Natalya before leaving Lana alone in the ring.
Moments after the brawl, Naomi was interviewed in the backstage area by Renee Young. Revealing that she’ll be at Battleground to congratulate the new No. 1 contender, her interview was cut short by Carmella. Reminding the Champion that she possesses the Money in the Bank briefcase, the Princess of Staten Island promised that she’ll be present at Battleground as well.
