WWE NXT, WWE.com
Welcome to the July 19, 2017, edition of WWE NXT. Broadcasting live from Full Sail University.
It’s always a welcome sound to hear Mauro Ranallo’s voice on commentary on WWE NXT. The cadence of his voice, the enthusiasm, and knowledge of the business is is such a far cry from Michael Cole, who has almost become a “Random Expression Generator.”
Getting back to the show. Since doing the NXT review, this episode was by far the best episode from start to finish. Nothing felt pointless and everything continued a narrative, the matches were top-quality and told really good stories.
I’m not wasting any more time, lets get to it!
WWE: Ruby Riot vs Ember Moon
Ember Moon vs. Ruby Riot
Result: Moon def. Riot via Eclipse
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Flash back to 2 week ago, Ruby Riot interrupts Ember Moon’s interview and says that both Moon and Nikki Cross have had their shot at Asuka, and now it’s her turn.
The crowd immediately comes to life as both superstars stare down in the middle of the squared circle. Dueling chants of “Let’s go Ruby!”/ “Let’s go Ember!” fill Full Sail University.
A very technical matchup to start. The women trade a series of rollups and quick pin attempts before moving onto a more aggressive style. Ruby gains momentum early by delivering a brutal top rope senton and a frankensteiner to on Moon, yet is unable to put her away.
The commentary during the match was excellent, Nigel continually mentioned the importance of Ember Moon’s eclipse finisher. Noting that it had (legitimately) injured Billie Kay and finished off a number of other women in NXT.
Despite her best efforts, Riot also fell victim to the Eclipse like many before her, and Moon continued to make a case for as the next challenger to Asuka.
Kassius Ohno Interview
Kassius Ohno is asked to compare his current run with NXT to his previous one. He gives a pretty generic answer about how the locker room has changed. Then, Hideo Itami interrupts and asks Ohno if he set up a match between the two men.
If you recall, a couple of weeks ago Kassius said he was a man of action, and he plans to take action. The two men will face off next week. With a friendship hanging in the balance, what can we expect from the two competitors?
