No. 1 Contenders Elimination Match for the SmackDown Women’s Title
Charlotte Flair vs Lana vs Natalya vs Tamina vs Becky Lynch
The best way to try and decide the favorite for any type of match like this is to first understand who isn’t going to win and then picking from what’s left. With that being said, first in that category is Lana. She’s had 3 undeserved shots at the belt in the past month, and although she actually wasn’t as bad as many thought she’d be, don’t expect a 4th any time soon. Then there’s Tamina. I actually like Superfly’s kid. Granted she has the personality of a dry sponge, but I think she’s pretty underrated in the ring. But now’s not her time. Same goes for Natalya. She’s a good in-ring worker but she has absolutely nothing going for her right now. She’s out.
That leaves us with Charlotte and Becky and there’s a case to be made for either. When Battleground is over on Sunday, that’ll leave 4 weeks until Summerslam, the second biggest show of the year. With that said, the WWE always likes to make sure that card is always star-studded. What better way to help that idea then to have a 5-time women’s champion battle for the Smackdown Women’s title? That’s the case for Charlotte.
But I don’t think that’s going to happen either. Look at what Becky Lynch has been through in the past 8 months and then think about the possible story that can be told here. Think about it, Becky has been getting the short end of the stick since December when she was cheated out of her title by Alexa Bliss. Since then she keeps coming up just short of getting it back. What better way to continue that narrative then by having her win at Battleground, and then go on to Summerslam where she beats Naomi for the title only to have Carmella cash in her Money In The Bank briefcase. That’ll leave Carmella, the heel, with 2 babyface challengers to begin her title reign against. I’m guessing that’s going to happen.
Winner and new No. 1 contender: Becky Lynch
