With Battleground this Sunday, let’s make 3 last-minute predictions for the SmackDown Live PPV.

The go-home episode of SmackDown Live represented an uptick in quality as the brand continues to struggle to find its momentum post-Superstar Shakeup. It isn’t for a lack of talent either, for a 2-hour show, SmackDown is stacked. However, coming on the heels of arguably the best PPV of the year, Great Balls of Fire, the SmackDown roster will have to pull out all the stops at Battleground. And the task won’t be easy.

One of the biggest hardships SmackDown has recently endured is the repetitive nature of the matches, non-existent story lines, and the dreaded U.S. versus the world stereotype that has permeated within the card top to bottom. Despite the less than impressive creative driving their characters, there is more than enough talent on the roster to put on a quality show.

WWE Battleground airs July 23, exclusively on the WWE Network. Here are our last minute predictions forthe show

3) The Orton-Mahal Feud Will Mercifully End

This isn’t a prediction so much as a small prayer in the form of an article. Since meme’ing his way to a WWE Championship, Jinder Mahal’s run has been nothing short of an absolute snooze. Entrance aside, Jinder has done almsot nothing of note since seizing the title at Backlash.I don’t necessarily blame Jinder for a less-than-stellar reign either. WWE gave us little reason to care about the Modern Day Maharaja. He was embarrassed by Rob Gronkowski twice within the span of a couple of weeks and was always known as a Jobber.

After two loses handed to him by JInder Mahal, Randy Orton finds himself with yet ANOTHER shot at the championship. Why? Because the Singh Brothers threatened to punch his father, Bob Orton. I get it, but how the WWE couldn’t have found a way to freshen up the storyline by making it a Triple-Threat match or something similar is beyond me. Randy Orton hasn’t helped matters much either.  He hasn’t done anything to elevate the matchup at all. He seems to have been on cruise control ever since winning the championship.

No matter who loses in the Punjabi Prison Match at Battleground, the WWE universe will win. There are WAY too many talented guys on the roster for the title to be locked up between these two.
