After retaining the WWE Championship with the assistance of The Singh Brothers and ultimately The Great Khali at Battleground, it’s time to look ahead to who could challenge Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam. Here are three possible candidates.

Whether you like it or not, Mahal will be the WWE Champion when we finally arrive to SummerSlam in late August.

While it’s already essentially set in stone as to who Mahal will face at SummerSlam, let’s humor the idea of two other potential opponents for Mahal at one.

Unfortunately with the brand split, we have basically cut the roster in half in terms of potential opponents and now we can officially say that Orton is out of the title picture for the time being.

Spoiler alert: Baron Corbin will not be featured here as this would not shock me as a spot in which Corbin cashes in and captures the WWE Championship.

Either way, Mahal as champion was a great idea, although the WWE did absolutely nothing with him, unfortunately.

So, for potentially the main event of the evening, who are the three candidates that could be opposite Mahal in the squared-circle at SummerSlam?

3. Shinsuke Nakamura

Before you get all up in arms and find this candidate to make no sense, let me explain once again: We all know who Mahal will be facing, but Nakamura is interesting for one reason.

If Nakamura were to face off against Mahal and go over, Corbin could cash in and continue their feud setting up a Nakamura and Corbin title scene.

That’s basically the only reason I’ve selected Nakamura here.

Do I actually think Nakamura has a chance to be booked against Mahal at SummerSlam? No, but since we have to look at three candidates here, Nakamura is about as likely as any other, outside of the No.1 candidate on this list.

However, with all of that said, expect Corbin and Nakamura’s feud to continue for the time being.
