WWE: Jericho, Owens, and Styles

Triple Threat Match for the WWE US Championship Match
Kevin Owens (C) vs. Chris Jericho vs. AJ Styles

Result: AJ Styles def, Jericho via Owens’ Frog Splash

Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars

Wow. This was an awesome match that the crowd spent most of the time on their feet for, and rightfully so. Styles, Owens, and Jericho are arguably three of the top 5 stars in the WWE right now and are all excellent technical wrestlers.

The match followed a pretty normal 3-person dynamic at first. Styles and Jericho teamed up on KO, and then focused on each other with a series of quick pinfall attempts. Things changed when Jericho landed a Lionsault to Styles who was applying the Calf Crusher to owens. The match then became a lot more high energy. With a couple of near falls, it seemed like at one point, literally anyone could win.

Ultimately, Styles won by throwing Owens out of the ring after he landed a Pop-Up Powerbomb and Frog Splash to Jericho.

Post match, KO threw a temper tantrum and demanded a rematch for next week.

Right now, Owens is at his heelish best. He’s no longer getting the “indy darling cheers,” he is getting legitimate and  thunderous boos every time he speaks. I don’t think there’s any arguing that he is SmackDown Lives best heel.

Unfortunately, one of the biggest questions from Battleground was not answered: what happened Fandango? Maybe next week we’ll find out. We’ll also see John Cena vs Shinsuke Nakamura with the #1 contendership on the line and KO vs Styles.
