WWE SummerSlam 2017: The Seth Rollins Factor Going into the Show

Seth Rollins has had an interesting 2017 with his biggest accomplishment defeating Triple H at WrestleMania 33.  SummerSlam could get things going with him once more.

Considering that two years ago, Seth Rollins was on top of the world as WWE Champion in addition to being one of the biggest heels in the company.  As a member of the Authority, Rollins was featured heavily being front and center of WWE programming.  Fast forward to present time and Rollins has been floating in and out of feuds other than his big feud with Triple H.  It isn’t alarming but a little concerning as to what the plan is for Rollins now.  Rollins has hit a plateau of sorts but now with SummerSlam on the approach that will certainly change.

The newfound alliance between him and former Shield member Dean Ambrose definitely gets things going.  On the surface, it looks like that the alliance can set up for an Ambrose heel turn.  According to an article on pwmania.com, there is talk that Ambrose and Rollins could take the alliance to SummerSlam to challenge for the Raw Tag Team Championship.

It’s a great possibility because SummerSlam is the company’s second biggest event of the year.  That can set forth a heavily rumored and speculated Shield reunion en route to New Orleans next year at WrestleMania 34.  It poses a great opportunity because other than the Hardy Boyz there isn’t any babyface tag team who could challenge Sheamus and Cesaro.  But having Rollins and Ambrose in the tag team picture brings instant interest because of their Shield backstory.  It works, and it’s already started in terms of the tension and working out the kinks in a destroyed friendship.

More from Summerslam

With the Tag Team Division dwindling down on Raw, this alliance absolutely serves as a quick fix to give it some rejuvenation.  Imagine the brawls between the team of Rollins and Ambrose versus the likes of The Revival and The Club.  Even a match with The Hardy Boyz wouldn’t be a bad idea.  It wouldn’t matter if Rollins and Ambrose had the Championships for the Division to be put on notice.

The idea of a legit tag team between Rollins and Ambrose sounds so much better than an Ambrose heel turn, which thinking back on it, it looks like that would almost be too easy to pull off.  Where the Miz, Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel fit in the equation has yet to be played out since technically Ambrose is still tied up with all three.  Rollins was just recently involved, but perhaps he’s the way out of the feud regardless.

Sheamus and Cesaro currently quote themselves as “being the bar” often.  Rollins and Ambrose are more than capable of bringing the fight and giving the team a run for their money.  Again, with their roots in The Shield fans already know that there will be some great matches between the two teams.  It seems that The Shield seeds have already been planted and at SummerSlam, fans may see that reunion begin to blossom.  That is definitely a storyline fans can believe in.
