2. John Cena and Roman Reigns Trade Barbs on Twitter

On July 23rd Roman Reigns tweeted this out, talking about the crowd being quiet at the Smackdown PPV Battleground. It prompted a response from free-agent John Cena.

Cena replied by telling Reigns he would give him the big fight he was asking for.

This back-and-forth is interesting because the two have never faced each other one-on-one in the ring before. With Cena apparently going into a feud with Baron Corbin, and with Reigns embroiled in the fatal four way, the two won’t be meeting at SummerSlam. And it was announced last week that Cena would be in the upcoming Transformers spin-off, which is currently in production. It doesn’t look like the two will meet anytime soon.

However, if Reigns wins at SummerSlam, and with Cena being a free-agent, a battle between the two seems imminent. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter even reported that the two could be the main event of WrestleMania 34 if WWE can’t work something out with Brock Lesnar before Mania.

If Reigns vs. Cena does happen in the future, having the Universal Championship in the feud will make it that much more interesting. Having the guy Vince wants to replace Cena with, going up against the guy he’s supposed to replace, is interesting. Add a world championship to the mix, and it makes the feud unmissable.

We never got to see Cena vs. Hogan. Or, Cena vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania. But we could still see Cena vs. Reigns, but that all starts at SummerSlam with a Roman Reigns win.
