The SmackDown Live Mid Card Division
Highlights of the Division
Baron Corbin is one of the most talented big man the WWE has ever seen in the past few years but did him a major disservice with his failed cash-in attempt. The only way he can rectify the blunder he endured on Smackdown Live is to defeat John Cena at Summerslam this Sunday. No excuses, if the Lone Wolf can’t beat Cena in the biggest pay per view event of the summer than he is no different from Damien Sandow. This man has been booked horribly since the Superstar Shakeup back in April, winning the Money in the Bank briefcase was supposed to solve that. If John Cena beats Baron Corbin this Sunday, the Lone Wolf will never be considered a threat on Smackdown for the foreseeable future.
AJ Styles and Kevin Owens’ feud should end at Summerslam with the Phenomenal One retaining his gold. It’s time for the prizefighter to move away from the mid-card division and be inserted back in the main-event scene. Both men have had fantastic matches the past few months but it’s time for Styles to face fresh new opponents like Sami Zayn, Rusev and Tye Dillinger. As for Kevin Owens, he might start feuding with Shane McMahon after kicking him in the face on Smackdown. This will be the perfect opportunity for Owens to revert back to the ruthless aggressive competitor he was back in NXT.
Meanwhile, for the Rest of the Division
Rusev got attacked by Randy Orton again after dismantling Chad Gable on the broadcast desk. This is a must win for the Bulgarian Brute, he needs to claim a victory over a former world champion to validate his position as a top-tier contender. Nobody will take Rusev seriously unless he breaks the back of the Viper with his Accolade at Summerslam.
