The SmackDown Live World Title Picture

Highlights of the Division

Jinder Mahal pulled a rabbit out of his hat and survived not only a potentially devastating loss to John Cena but the failed cash-in attempt of Baron Corbin. This specific night on Smackdown Live should be a crowning achievement in the title run of the Maharaja. His title run has always been impressive but it will end at Summerslam. Shinsuke Nakamura will be the man to dethrone Mahal for the WWE Championship. The King of Strong Style has been on a roll for months now and it’s hard to envision a scenario where Jinder Mahal would beat him at Summerslam. Mahal has been painted as a surviving champion but his luck will finally run out this Sunday.

John Cena almost had Jinder Mahal beat but eventually screwed over Baron Corbin of winning the WWE Championship with his failed cash-in attempt. If the WWE is serious about letting Baron Corbin get screwed over by John Cena, then Cena shouldn’t beat Corbin at Summerslam. The Franchise isn’t even apart of the title picture at the moment and doesn’t gain anything if he beats Corbin this Sunday. It’s time that the WWE does the right thing and put a younger talent over man who won’t be apart of Smackdown Live’s long term plans in the next few months.

Meanwhile, for the Rest of the Division

As for Randy Orton, he’s in the same boat as John Cena. He also has nothing to gain by defeating Rusev at Summerslam. The Viper is still owed a WWE Championship shot after defeating Jinder Mahal a few weeks ago so if he loses to Rusev, it won’t go against him in the rankings.

Let’s see the rankings for the division this week.

WWE World Champion: Jinder Mahal (14 Wins – 11 Losses)

Contenders

  • No. 1 Contender: Shinsuke Nakamura (9 Wins – 2 Losses)
  • Contender No. 2: Randy Orton (11 Wins – 8 Losses)

Pretenders

  • Pretender No. 1: John Cena (8 Wins – 4 Losses)
