WWE Championship: Jinder Mahal (c) vs Shinsuke Nakamura
You know, Jinder Mahal’s title reign hasn’t been that bad. It really hasn’t. It had failure written all over it too. We’re talking about a guy who just 5 months ago couldn’t buy a win and seemed destined to stay on the low card for the rest of his career. So when he got the nod to face Randy Orton for the title at Backlash in May, it was shocking to most fans. If it was even more of a shock when he was able to defeat “The Viper”, thus completing one of the craziest turn arounds in WWE history. And in the past few months, he’s grown pretty nicely into the role and what once seemed like a fluke, now doesn’t appear like such a reach.
So with all that considered, unfortunately for Mahal, it’ll all end Sunday. Fact is, Nakamura is 37 years old and the WWE needs to strike while the iron is still hot. He’s got plenty left in the tank, but if the company wants to get every thing they can out of him, his time as champion needs to be now. And yes, he did drop Cena on the back of his head in their #1 contender’s match on Smackdown Live which reportedly infuriated Vince McMahon, but that’s not going to stop this train. Nakamura wins and holds the title all the way until Wrestlemania 34 when he and AJ Styles will finally meet again in a rematch of their brilliant battle from Wrestle Kingdom 10 while with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Winner and new champion: Shinsuke Nakamura
