Universal Championship Fatal 4-Way: Brock Lesnar (c) vs Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe vs Braun Strowman
Fun fact, a fatal 4-way title match has never main evented a SummerSlam before. And what a way to kick off the very first one with a match that has classic written all over it. In the four men that comprise our main event, each one is a bruising, violent worker. And with over 1200 pounds of men in this ring at once, expect an epic, car wreck-like atmosphere.
So anytime there’s a 4-way match, the best way to try and figure out the winner in advance is to first try to decide who’s not going to win. First in that category is Strowman. The guy still has a huge future ahead of him, no doubt. But with less than 2 years of in-ring pro wrestling under his belt, “The Monster Among Men” is not ready to win a match like this, much less carry the responsibility of what a win like this would mean.
Then you have Reigns. Now, there is always the possibility that if everything goes well with Ambrose and Rollins earlier in the night, a Shield reunion could bring him the belt. Although I don’t count out that idea somewhere down the line, I don’t see it happening Sunday. And he won’t win it on his own because I also highly doubt the company wants to end another one of its biggest shows with the crowd booing Roman out of another stadium. He’s out.
What about Lesnar? “The Beast Incarnate” is the obvious, odds-on favorite to win this thing just based on the past few years history. But think about it. There’s a reason the company chose to do a fatal 4-way enabling the possibility of Lesnar losing without getting pinned. That’s a telling sign. Also factor in that Lesnar and UFC Light Heavyweight champ Jon Jones have been verbally sparring in the media about a UFC mega-fight. Normally when it comes to Lesnar and the UFC, where there’s smoke, there’s almost always fire. I think he leaves Brooklyn belt-less.

And that leaves Samoa Joe. “The Samoan Submission Machine” has everything going for him right now. He’s been vicious, cocky, great on the mic, and the ultimate opportunist. This is the best Joe we’ve seen since and an undefeated 26-year-old tore through the ranks of TNA. Joe’s time is now and he has the experience and the resume required to take on such a big honor of winning such a huge match. I think he gets it done and I also think he chokes out Lesnar to do it.
Winner and new champion: Samoa Joe
