Singles Match: John Cena vs Baron Corbin
Hey, remember when I said that it would be stunning if someone of Randy Orton’s stature lost at 4 pay per views in a row? Well, get this: John Cena hasn’t won a SummerSlam singles match since 2007. But you know what? I think his losing streak continues. Look, when this match was originally booked, the path for Corbin looked pretty certain. He’d lose his singles match to Cena earlier in the night but with the Money In The Bank briefcase still with him, he’d shrug that loss off and cash-in either that night or shortly after. But then stunningly, and stupidly, all that was erased when Cena screwed Corbin out of the contract on the final Smackdown before Sunday, thus erasing all the potential drama that is the MITB case. What in the world were they thinking?
Here’s the skinny. Corbin is a star in the making and he’s been seen that way for a long time. As much as it would be a surprise to see Cena lose again at SummerSlam, it would be an absolute burying of the highest degree to see Corbin lose again after what happened Tuesday. Losing the contract was bad but a massive win over Cena would put him right back in the title hunt, albeit without the briefcase. Plus, Cena has been booked for RAW. Beating Corbin just doesn’t make sense. I don’t think it’ll be clean, but “The Lonewolf” will pull off the upset.
Winner: Baron Corbin
