WWE SummerSlam 2017: 3 Last-Minute Predictions

1. Carmella Ignites Another Superstar Shake-Up
Right now, Carmella is the leading heel on the SmackDown women’s roster, but you wouldn’t know that based on reaction alone. Despite her decent booking and ability on the mic, the crowd simply doesn’t respond to Carmella in any way. Part of that is to blame on her (strictly) friend, James Ellsworth, who seems to be a heat magnet.
If WWE is insistent on making her a marquee name in the business, what better way than for her to ignite another Superstar Shake-Up?
I don’t know that it has ever been specified that the briefcase must be cashed in on the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion (as opposed to the Raw Champion). Nor does it even matter in today’s WWE. Even if a broadcasting team or Commissioner does drive home the fact that the Money in the Bank briefcase will be cashed in on the WWE Champion, it could be presumptuous on their part.
Besides that specific stipulation, the WWE has been doing their hardest, intentional or not, to make the referees look as inept as possible. First, it was the botch at the end of the Styles vs Kevin Owens match at Battleground, then nearly 2 weeks later the referee missed that Owens’s shoulder was up as he landed the 3-count. Now I am supposed to believe that a ref knows the nuances of the MitB cash-in rules?
This prediction is just as much wishful thinking as it is storyline driven. Right now, it’s heavily speculated that, consistency be damned, Vince McMahon wants another Superstar Shake-Up. Having Carmella ignite another Superstar Shake-Up on a cash in is a much better catalyst than just a whim.
