The SmackDown Live Mid Card Division

Highlights of the Division

AJ Styles retained his championship gold from Kevin Owens not once but twice in a span of three days. This rivalry is officially over which is amazing news for the rest of the division. The Phenomenal One hinted to Baron Corbin that he’ll be bringing back the US Open challenge starting next week and the Lone Wolf might get the first crack at it. Since he suffered a devastating loss to John Cena at Summerslam and losing his cash-in opportunity to Jinder Mahal last week, Baron Corbin was thought to be taking a huge step back in the mid card division. If he is planning to be feuding with AJ Styles for the US title, this is the perfect opportunity for him to show the world that he endured a small speed bump on his road to championship gold.

As for Kevin Owens, his potential feud with Shane McMahon will be the narrative that shapes up the Smackdown broadcast for many months. The Smackdown Commissioner did cost Kevin Owens the United States Championship which will be the basis of this feud. This is the perfect opportunity for Owens to start a movement to get rid of Shane McMahon as commissioner of Smackdown. Recruit guys who have been under-utilized on the brand for months like his former best friend Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler or even Tye Dillinger. Even though Kevin Owens won’t be competing for any championship at the moment, this feud could be a sweet consolation prize.

Meanwhile, for the Rest of the Division

Rusev lost his match to Randy Orton extremely quickly at Summerslam but it seems like this feud is far from over. There is no question about it, this loss did drop Rusev’s stock tremendously but he has an opportunity to rectify this setback. It honestly depends on what he does in the next few weeks that will determine if he should be considered a threat on Smackdown Live, or just an afterthought.
