Highlights of the Division
Jinder Mahal retained his gold at Summerslam with the same old tricks he used to capture the WWE Championship, the Singh Brothers. The Maharaja might be the best booked champion on the roster but he’s also the most predictable at this juncture. The good news is that Shinsuke Nakamura still has another opportunity to get another crack at the WWE Championship. Not sure though if the WWE will pull the trigger and have him beat Mahal for the gold.
Randy Orton is also in line for another crack at the WWE Championship after his quick win over Rusev at Summerslam. The Viper already beat Mahal weeks ago on Smackdown so he should get one more title opportunity in the next few weeks. His feud with Rusev might not be over even after his Summerslam win, Rusev could play spoiler in the championship match to screw him out of the gold and intensify their feud. This could definitely be in the benefit of both competitors for the long haul.
Meanwhile, for the Rest of the Division
Bobby Roode made his Smackdown debut this week with a win over Aiden English. He’s considered a main event pretender in the WWE Title picture because of his stature as the former NXT Champion. He was always considered a main event talent on NXT so it should be no different here on Smackdown. At the moment, he’s being treated as a babyface on Smackdown but that might be a ruse till he feuds with a specific talent on this roster. The Glorious One will be a future WWE Champion, it’ll just be a matter of time till he’s given an opportunity to get a crack at the gold.
Let’s see the rankings for the division this week.

- Contender No. 2: Randy Orton (12 Wins – 8 Losses)
