AJ Styles’ US Open Challenge
After putting Kevin Owens in his rear view, Styles can finally begin the United States Open Challenge. And who should answer? None other than … Tye Dillinger? What a welcome sight Tye is. One of the best baby faces on the brand. Despite being off TV for so long, Tye was still welcomed with a decent pop from the crowd which I thought was very encouraging. A guy that has worked as hard as he has deserves all the recognition he receives.
As Tye makes his way down to the ring Corbin pushes him from behind. Like a true school bully, Corbin forces his way to the front of the line. But the Perfect 10 wasn’t going to be bullied and takes out Corbin long enough to officially start the match.
WWE United States Championship Match
AJ Styles (c) vs. Tye Dillinger
Result: AJ Styles def. Tye Dillinger via Calf Crusher
Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars
This was a fun, albeit quick, match. But was really nothing more than a squash. There was a frantic pace to the match, as a recovering Corbin was lurking outside of the ring waiting to make this a DQ finish. I don’t mind the quick nature of it, but I do wish Dillinger got at least a bit more offense in. Dillinger was forced to tap to the Calf Crusher.
After the match, Corbin charged the ring, was met with a forearm, left the ring, and began screaming that AJ Styles’ time was up. Obviously a feud is brewing between these two competitors.
