WWE No Mercy 2017: Braun Strowman To Be ‘Protected’?

facebooktwitterreddit

The match at WWE No Mercy 2017 between Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar has been a hot topic of late, with many speculating on how Strowman will be booked against The Beast. However, according to a new report, The Monster Among Men will be just fine, even if booked to lose September 24th.

So far, the build for what feels like a ‘once in a lifetime’ mega-match, has been superb. Superstars don’t usually come out on top, even in the buildup against Lesnar, however, Braun Strowman has been booked to perfection.

Firstly, The Monster Amongst Men delivered a brutal ass-kicking to The Beast at SummerSlam, who just about managed to escape Strowman and retain his title. Then, the next night on WWE Raw, Strowman delivered another brutal beat down. Wonderful. When done correctly, seeing Lesnar exposed can be great TV, and this was no different.

It speaks volumes that the majority of fans are more exited to see this match than Cena vs. Reigns – another ‘once in a lifetime’ mega-match. Personally, I think both matches should’ve been saved for WrestleMania, but hey-ho, we’re getting it now so let’s just enjoy it.

One complaint, or worry rather, is how Strowman will be booked during the match. Will he be another star acting as a jobber, taking suplex after suplex? Or rather, will he triumph the current Universal Champion, taking his title, and create his own path of destruction?

According to a new rumor from CageSide Seats, we may have our answer. The report states that Braun Strowman is expected to loose the match, however, the WWE are ‘planning to protect him in defeat’.

Some fans reading this may be outraged that Strowman isn’t winning, however, you have to get over the fact that Reigns/Lesnar is now almost guaranteed to be the main event of WrestleMania 34. For me, if they choose to take this direction, it makes perfect sense. So far, Strowman has looked incredible. Taking the fight to The Beast, moreover, overshadowing him. It would be idiotic to take the steam away from Strowman, so ‘protecting’ him against Lesnar is just smart business.

It also means that down the line, following WrestleMania, Braun Stowman has a real case for a title shot against Roman Reigns. And that’s a feud I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing revisited.
