The Smackdown Live Tag Team Division

Highlights of the division

The Usos and the New Day will face off next week in a street fight for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. Look for the Usos to retain the gold and finally end this championship feud. It’s hard to envision a scenario where the New Day beats the Usos and they further this rivalry along. It’ll probably get to the Kevin Owens and AJ Styles territory where fans are sick and tired of seeing the same match over and over again. I’d honestly prefer to have the New Day be the tag team champions and start defending their gold against fresh opponents, but it isn’t the long-term play that the WWE has for the tag titles.

The team of Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin should be looked at as the next team to challenge for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Many would say that’s too early for a newly formed team but I disagree. Both the Hype Bros and Breezango haven’t been presented as credible title challengers for months now. Gable and Benjamin have a lot of buzz surrounding them, and it’s the WWE’s responsibility to give them the platform to make the fans root for them. The WWE will need to find creative ways to get this team to be as entertaining in front of a camera than they are inside the wrestling ring.

Meanwhile, for the rest of the division.

It’s the first time in as many weeks that there wasn’t any Fashion Files for SmackDown Live. Their skits still haven’t resolved the glaring question, who was attacking them? Rumours are still circulating that the Authors of Pain from NXT might be the culprits or the reunited team of Luke Harper and Erick Rowan. Repeating this theory every week is getting extremely agitating, but the WWE won’t allow the Fashion Files to drop important clues that would expose these teams. The Fashion Police are getting themselves over with these goofy segments, but there needs to be a pay off by the end of this series.

Let’s see the rankings for the division this week.
