5. Titus O’Neil
When talking about making a gimmick work, Titus O’Neil deserves all the credit in the world for making his Titus Worldwide gimmick work.
Titus started off with the Titus Brand, and it was a dreadful start. We had to endure painful segments of Titus trying to join the New Day, and Titus really had no momentum as he lost every match that he was placed in.
However, things all started to turn around for Titus in April. Titus was able to get Apollo Crews to join the Titus Brand, which created an interesting dynamic because Titus was a heel and Crews was a face.
This brought more attention to Apollo Crews and the Titus Brand, and eventually the Titus Brand became Titus Worldwide when he got Akira Tozawa to join. It was definitely interesting to see a 6’6″ manager help to elevate a 5’7″ talent.
Regardless, Titus was able to have funny moments backstage and put the spotlight on the talent so much so that the crowd could not help but like Titus, and he ended up turning face. Titus had such a great impact that he helped to get Akira Tozawa over enough to win the Cruiserweight Championship from Neville.
Titus looked like he was a sinking ship on his way out when he first started the Titus Brand, but he is now in charge of a growing faction that is using underutilized talent and entertaining us every Monday.
